About Us

Built on 165 years of story.

Where New York
Breathes Slower

Central Park Horse Tours was born the same year as the Park itself. When Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux first broke ground on their grand vision in 1858, our founders were already there — offering New Yorkers a way to experience the new green oasis in the most timeless manner imaginable: on horseback.

Today, amid a city that never stops moving, we remain a deliberate pause. Our horse-drawn carriages and guided tours invite visitors and lifelong New Yorkers alike to see the Park as it was always meant to be seen — unhurried, intimate, and alive with history at every turn of the path.

"To ride through Central Park is to move through time itself — past Gilded Age promenades, past quiet ponds that haven't changed in a century, past a city that is always becoming something new."

We are not simply a tour company. We are stewards of a tradition, caretakers of remarkable animals, and storytellers of one of the world’s great urban landscapes.

Sixteen Decades
of Memories Made

1858

Founded the same year Central Park’s construction began. Our first carriages rolled through newly laid carriage drives as the city looked on in wonder.

1880s

The Gilded Age brought waves of prosperity and prestige. Society figures and visiting dignitaries chose our carriages for their evening promenades along the Mall and the Ladies’ Mile.

1920s

As automobiles transformed the city’s streets, we doubled down on what machines could never replace — the grace, warmth, and wonder of a living horse pulling you through a living park.

1960s

We welcomed a new generation of New Yorkers during the park’s revival era, becoming a beloved fixture in some of the most iconic photographs and films set in Central Park.

2000s

Expanded guided tour offerings, adding narrated historical tours led by the Park’s most knowledgeable guides — ensuring every ride is as educational as it is enchanting.

Today

Over 165 years on, we continue to carry couples, families, and dreamers through 843 acres of urban paradise — one horse, one story, one unforgettable ride at a time.

The Horses Come First

Every decision we make begins with our horses. We maintain a small, carefully managed stable of draft and carriage breeds — Belgian, Percheron, and Friesian crosses — each selected for their gentle temperament, robust health, and natural ease in an urban environment.

Our animals work regulated hours, receive daily veterinary oversight, and are retired with full care when their touring days are done. They are not tools of our trade — they are its heart, and we treat them accordingly.

Guests are welcome to inspect at any time. We maintain the highest standards and are proud to show how we care for the horses behind every ride.
