Where New York
Breathes Slower
Central Park Horse Tours was born the same year as the Park itself. When Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux first broke ground on their grand vision in 1858, our founders were already there — offering New Yorkers a way to experience the new green oasis in the most timeless manner imaginable: on horseback.
Today, amid a city that never stops moving, we remain a deliberate pause. Our horse-drawn carriages and guided tours invite visitors and lifelong New Yorkers alike to see the Park as it was always meant to be seen — unhurried, intimate, and alive with history at every turn of the path.
We are not simply a tour company. We are stewards of a tradition, caretakers of remarkable animals, and storytellers of one of the world’s great urban landscapes.
OUR ANIMALS
The Horses Come First
Every decision we make begins with our horses. We maintain a small, carefully managed stable of draft and carriage breeds — Belgian, Percheron, and Friesian crosses — each selected for their gentle temperament, robust health, and natural ease in an urban environment.
Our animals work regulated hours, receive daily veterinary oversight, and are retired with full care when their touring days are done. They are not tools of our trade — they are its heart, and we treat them accordingly.
Guests are welcome to inspect at any time. We maintain the highest standards and are proud to show how we care for the horses behind every ride.
WHAT WE STAND FOR
A Tradition Built on Principles
Stewardship
We care for the Park as if it were our own backyard — because for 165 years, it has been.
Animal Welfare
Our horses are healthy, loved, and never overworked. Period.
Authentic History
Our guides don’t recite scripts — they tell the true, layered story of this extraordinary place.
Genuine Hospitality
Every guest deserves a ride they’ll describe to their grandchildren.
